Life on a Dartmoor Scrapyard (The Early Years)

by Peggy Harris

Peggy shares her memories of growing up on her Father’s scrapyard at Lettaford

Sam Harris's scrapyard at Lettaford had an almost legendary reputation on Dartmoor. In this book - which will delight all those who remember Sam, as well as recording an important piece of social history - his daughter Peggy recalls her life growing up on the scrapyard, and many of the characters she came across. She talks about Sam and her mother, her brothers, friends and neighbours, their working life in tough conditions, and includes a number of stories about Sam and his exploits that have been related to her since his death in 1988. As Peggy says, ‘Everyone always said "Good old Sam!" - he brought a smile to people's faces.' Here's your chance to find out more.
